The 2010AAAs traveled to Nashville for the Bauer Music City Invitational over the New Year's holiday. Due to Covid protocols, 4 players were missing to start the tournament, but over the course of the round robin games, 2 players were able to return.
The team faced the Florida Alliance for Game 1 and won 5-3 with goals scored by M. Zarnosky, A. Zhu, S. Mandeville, B. Langlois, and N. Dufault. Later that day, the Junior Canes faced the Tri-State Spartans and had their biggest spread of the tournament and the only shutout with an 8-0 victory. M. Mayhew was in net. Goals were scored by A. Zhu, J. Irvine (2), N. Dufault (2), and B. Langlois with 3 for the hat trick.
Day 2 of the tournament saw the return of N. Salmon and A. Tong. The Junior Canes faced the Junior Predators first thing in the morning and after 2 periods were down 0-1. Nearly halfway through the third period, N. Salmon tied the game with a shot from the blue line. Five minutes later, J. Irvine broke that tie to lead the team to its third victory in Nashville. Game 4 of the round robin had the Canes facing the Madison Capitols, a team they faced in Chicago back in November, where our boys lost by 1 goal. The Capitols shut out the Canes in a 0-3 ending.
Having finished the first two days of games in 2nd place, the Junior Canes faced off against the Junior Predators again for the semifinals. The Preds took an early lead in the first period and remained there for most of the second. However, C. Wukotich scored a beautiful goal to tie the game, which was followed 10 seconds later by a goal from B. Langlois pulling the Canes into the lead. The rest of the game was an intense back and forth, and with 5 minutes remaining in the game, the Predators tied it up. As the clock counted down the last handful of seconds in the third period, B. Langlois took a wide shot to find the back of the net right as the buzzer sounded. The ref called no goal as the boys celebrated their perceived victory at the other end of the ice. Facing off for a 3-on-3 overtime period, B. Langlois had no trouble finding the back of the net again 10 seconds after the puck was dropped.
This victory led the Canes into the Championship game to face the Madison Capitols one more time. B. Langlois, yet again, found his way past the goaltender to start the scoring in the first period, but before the first intermission, Madison was able to tie it up. The Canes doubled down on their efforts and were rewarded when C. Wukotich broke the tie with 5 minutes left in the second period bringing the score to 2-1. Sealing the deal in the third period was a goal by N. Dufault, and at the end of the game with some major saves by their goaltender, C. Blair, the Canes won gold!
Congratulations to our 11U AAA Junior Hurricanes Champion team for winning Bauer Music City tournament in Nashville!!
