The October Saves Goalie Challenge is proud to announce their seventh season supporting breast & pediatric cancer research with a new campaign – All Saves, One Goal. This year, October Saves calls on ice hockey goalies — youth, amateur and professional— anywhere and everywhere to raise money, give support and raise awareness through gathering pledges per save they make from wherever you are – your home, your driveway, neighborhood rink or favorite gaming device. To sign up, visit www.octobersaves.org.
“A cancer diagnosis is already terrifying but when you add a deadly virus like Covid-19, job insecurity and financial hardship it becomes an unimaginable situation,” stated Lara Hopewell, founder of October Saves. “The October Saves Goalie Challenge is committed to helping bring relief through our “All Saves, One Goal” campaign.”
“All Saves, One Goal” campaign calls on any and all hockey goalies to participate in whatever way they can. If access to a rink is an obstacle make saves in the driveway, in a basement with a friend shooting in a home net. Synthetic ice is a great option for training and those saves count, too. Lucky enough to have access to an ice rink? Count those saves, whether it be for practice or any game time. If gaming is your thing, feel free to count the saves you make while playing NHL games virtually. You can even adopt a pro level goalie and announce each save they make is being counted in your tally. Feel free to make saves in several of these ways. You do not need to use just one strategy. ALL SAVES COUNT!
“Cancer is a disease that has impacted us all at one point or another, whether it be a family member, a friend, a teacher, or a coach,” stated Lara Hopewell, CEO and Founder of October Saves. “Through October Saves, we have watched so many teams and players come together to support one another, motivate and encourage each other, cheer for each other. We need to continue to give that support and encouragement now more than ever.”
Last year, 29 North Carolina goalies raised nearly $20,000. This year there are more ways to participate in these challenging times. Every save can count, even for the Forwards who want to play goalie in NHL21! Additionally, this year there will be a Silent Auction for a slot to have a custom/personalized piece of art specifically commissioned for the winner.
Previous beneficiaries of October Saves include Stand Up 2 Cancer, The Inova Schar Cancer Institute / Life with Cancer, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, CHEO, and the October Saves Scholarship with the Goalie Guild. This year, additional organizations have been added to the list including Lungevity Breathe Easier: An Emergency Response Fund, Family Reach Covid-19 Emergency Fund and The Pink Fund’s Covid-19 Real Help Now Fund.
To participate, goalies can register at www.octobersaves.org beginning September 1, 2020. November 1st is the last day to count saves, and the fundraising deadline is November 12th, 2020. Winners and prizes will be announced on November 13th, 2020.
