The Carolina Jr Hurricanes SQAA Minor team was hosting the SQ Upper A CHL play-off division in Raleigh the weekend of February 29-March 1.

The 4 teams entering the play-offs were the Triad Storm, Charlotte Rush, Charleston Stingrays and our Carolina Jr Hurricanes. The Hurricanes first faced the Storm and after a hard fought battle ended up losing 4-2. Which made their second game a must win versus the Rush. The Canes had a slow start and were down 4-1 half way through the second period. A timely timeout was called by the coaching staff and the Canes were able to rally back and won 5-4!

The final round robin game was against the Stingrays and with both teams having a weekend 1-1 record, the winner was going to advance to the Championship game. The Canes came ready to play and won 8-3. The Championship was against the Storm. Both teams played 4 times this season before the Championship and the record was 1-1-2 so a very even match-up.

The Final didn’t disappoint as both teams fought for every inch on the ice. The game was back and forth with a lot of action. The Storm was up 2-1 half way through the third, but the Canes capitalized on a power play to tie it up 2-2. The game went into a 5 vs 5 five minute overtime. The Canes scored with about 2 minutes remaining to win the Championship! The game could have gone either way and all players left everything on the ice. Congrats to all the teams for a great season!

The Carolina Jr. Hurricanes also won the Skills Competition that was held on Saturday, Feb. 29th.

Well Done and Congrats to the SQAA Minor Team!
