The season of giving back is upon us and the Jr. Hurricanes Bantam AA Majors kicked it off when arrived at St. Philip Lutheran Church in Raleigh to give an assist to Brown Bag Ministry. Over the course of a chilly Saturday morning, the boys and parents helped to put together 500 brown bag lunches of PBJ sandwiches, fruit, and sweet and salty and snacks. After they finished filling the bags, the Jr. Canes broke up into four groups and headed out to a Raleigh apartment complex where they handed out the lunches directly to families in need. The Ministry makes over 12,000 brown bag lunches a month and distributes them across Wake and Durham Counties.

After they finished deliveries, coach Bill Fredenburg took the time to talk to the boys about the privilege of playing a great sport on a great team and the responsibility that comes with it. Looking around at the apartment complex and telling the boys about the great work they did, Coach Fredenburg said “This is what it’s all about.” The 2005 AA Jr. Canes will be back at the Ministry later this season, hopefully for diaper delivery day!
