By Jean Rogers, 10/19/19, 2:00PM EDT

The Canes 07 AA traveled up to Boston to play in their first EHF Tier 1 AAA Invitational this past weekend.  The weekend started off with a tough test against the New Jersey Hitmen, down 1-0 mid third period the Canes scored twice and added an empty netter to secure the 3-1 victory.  In the evening tilt the Canes went down 2-0 early and battled back to a 3-3 tie against Philadelphia Hockey Club, outshooting their opponents 40-18.  Waking up on Sunday it was apparent they would need to win the rest of their round robin games to advance to the semi-finals, up first was the Hartford Jr Wolfpack, the 07’s swarmed them early and often and took the game 10-0 leaving no doubt about their ambitions to move forward.  In nightcap they faced undefeated Palmyra Black Knights, getting good goaltending early was key and 2 quick power play goals started them on a path to a 7-2 victory and secured the #2 seed in the group.  The semi-finals brought a rematch with a hungry New Jersey Hitmen team, after a scoreless first period the Canes eventually took charge and powered through for a 5-1 definitive victory over a solid AAA opponent.  The finals were a rematch with Palmyra, the game was tight early but the sustained pressure caught up to the Knights and the Canes rolled to a 6-1 victory to take the title.  The Jr Canes outscored their opponents 34-8 with strong goaltending from Kai Salmon and DJ Patriss and plenty of help from a loaded D corp, offensive leaders were Ryan Hedley with 25 points and Cole Stankavage with 15 points in the 6 games.  The team took their record to 10-1-1 for the year and have maintained the top position in the nation in Tier 2 PeeWee with a rating of 94.09.  Great work Jr Canes!
